Dr. Joy received her undergraduate degree in international business, French and piano from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA, and then worked for a few years in project management, first for The Carnegie and then for a language management firm.
Through her mother’s experience with ovarian cancer Dr. Joy realized the limitations of a purely conventional medical model and was introduced to alternatives.
Unfortunately, it was difficult to find a qualified ‘alternative’ healthcare practitioner at the time.
Over time, Dr. Joy’s job became unfulfilling and her desire to learn more about natural medicine continued to grow. She quit her job and pursued her passion to provide alternative care to those seeking it. Dr. Joy completed massage school and through that process discovered Naturopathic Medicine. This was what she had been looking for!
After two years of required pre-med courses, Dr. Joy was accepted into Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington.
Four challenging yet rewarding years later, in 2004, she received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine. Since then, Dr. Joy has also received certificates:
- BioEnergetic Medicine (more on this below)
- Reiki
- Reconnective Healing
- Matrix Energetics
- Quantum Reflex Integration.
Dr. Joy is passionate about uncovering and addressing the root causes of dis-ease and helping people to understand all of the factors that contribute to our experience of health and well-being.
Patients come away not only feeling better, but empowered, with greater vitality and freedom, to enjoy life more fully.
When she’s not providing compassionate care and holistic solutions, Dr. Joy manages a busy household of 2 teen daughters, 2 sons in college, an Australian shepherd and 3 cats, with her wonderful husband of 10 years. She loves studying and practicing design, various types of investing, and entrepreneurship. She also loves to travel, read, cook, practice yoga, take walks with her daughters, bike with her husband, meditate, garden and spend time with friends and family.
What is a BioEnergetic Assessment?
BioEnergetic Assessment (BEA), also known as Meridian Stress Assessment (MSA) or Electroacupuncture According to Voll (EAV), is an advanced computerized assessment system that measures the health of your body’s organs and systems via acupuncture points.
Once a baseline has been established, Dr. Joy can test for a wide variety of specific stressors and toxic influences that may be impacting your energy and contributing to dis-ease.
BioEnergetic Assessment is one of the most exciting and innovative tools in integrative medicine because of its history of success in uncovering causal factors—including a wide range of potentially toxic stressors.
In a nutshell: it helps decode your symptoms by accessing your body’s innate communication system.
How Does It Work?
BioEnergetic Assessment (BEA) technology was discovered by German medical doctor and acupuncturist, Dr. Reinhold Voll in the 1940s.
BEA works by measuring your body’s natural electrical impulses or “energy”—also known as “meridians” in Traditional Chinese Medicine, or the newly coined scientific term: “The Primo Vascular System/PVS”.
Though this may sound unusual, the technology is similar to an EKG, in that they both measure the electrical health of your organs.
According to the principles of Chinese Medicine and other traditional healing systems, dis-ease begins in the electromagnetic field before it manifests a physical condition or symptom. Which is what makes BEA so valuable to those seeking an innovative approach to medicine.
BEA also takes the guess-work out of individual healing plans, as it allows your doctor to test which nutrients, supportive therapies, or detoxifying herbs will help bring your body back into balance.
Virtual BioEnergetic Assessments Anytime, Anywhere
BEA technology allows Dr. Joy to offer highly effective distance or “virtual” assessments to patients around the world.
Distance assessments are performed via phone or Zoom using a surrogate, and produce the same results as an in-person test.
Whom Can It Help?
Dr. Joy uses BioEnergetic Assessment as part of her consulatations to gather the information she needs to develop a custom healing plan for all patients.
